General transferable skills: teamwork

Competence Statement A student is able to:
  • establish working relations with others, defining, sharing and delegating responsibilities within the group
  • interact effectively in social groups
  • promote productive cooperation.
Basic Level Able to:
  • work effectively as a team member
  • meet deadlines and obligations set for him/her
Advanced Level Able to:
  • take initiative in a team, either as a member of the team or more usually by leading a group
  • identify the needs of others in a group
Illustrations Of Activities At basic level, participation in:
  • group research project
  • mooting teams
  • tutorials, seminars or discussion led by senior students or lecturers
  • team negotiation exercises
     
    At advanced level, participation in:
  • inter-disciplinary tribunals – for example, a planning tribunal involving architects
  • student led tutorials
  • leading a group research project
  • providing evidence of teamwork through work experience.
Illustrations of evidence Ability to work as team member:
  • contribute to work of the team
  • ability to cooperate and negotiate within the team
  • listen effectively to other group members
  • support other group members
  • meet deadlines within the group
  • take initiative
  • ability to evaluate your own contribution to group work
     
    Ability to lead a group:
  • encourages contributions from all members
  • effective running and management of meetings
  • preparing agenda
  • summarising conclusions of meetings and the way forward.
  • facilitate good communication between members
  • ability evaluate group functioning.
  • ability to deal with conflict in a group
